Do you know that if configured properly, for a person who has never ranked a page or a website successfully in Google, Yahoo and MSN, you can increase your chances of ranking by installing something called the SEO checklist available at: http://www.drupal.org/project/seo_checklist. In fact, I gave one of my students a to do list and he did it. In less than a couple of months he was able to get top placements in Google by just implementing 1 of the modules; called scheduler. I am not saying you will get the same result. It all depends on the competition you have and other factors.
Improve User Experience, Give Users Even More Options By Downloading These Drupal Modules
I am going to mention a few modules that I can not live without they are: simplemenu, buddylist, privatemsg, guestbook, logintobbagan, service links. This blog tutorial will not go into how to configure, ftp or set up these modules I am mentioning.
Service Links & Digg
http://drupal.org/project/service_links. What this module does once you enable it and give yourself permissions is that you can put these Digg and social bookmarking icons on top or beneath each content types such as: blog entries, forum threads, news, reviews, videos, audio recordings, polls, books content type. For for instance, if you write an incredible blog post, if a visitor likes it so much they can click on stumpleupon or delicious and book mark your blog post giving your more visibility and hopefully more traffic to your site. Folks can digg your tutorial or how to guide by giving you a vote.
Logintobbagan
If your users are experiencing something called email obesity. This is not when they go to Las Vegas to eat at the Riveria and have a raw fish sashimi feast, all you can eat crab and pay $35 maybe the price has gone up now and stuff their tummies with all the seafood they can chow down. No, email obesity is when you sign up for access to all the millions of youtube accounts, email accounts, other people's website to log in to start blogging. Logintobbaggan once you install it does not require your visitor to have to confirm their email address to become an authenticated user. They can skip that process and just have an automatic login on the spot. How refreshing, you have improved your user's experience once again by not having them sign up with confirming their email address. http://drupal.org/project/logintoboggan
Guestbook
IS a great module to say Kombum wai, sayonara, to your visitors that first sign up. You can give them an invisible bow from the waist down welcoming them to your community website. I remember when I was traveling in Japan every time I entered a store someone would yell irashimasay (Welcome!) It is certainly nice to be acknowledged, we all need it. This module allows you to say hi to all the new visitors that come in. http://drupal.org/project/guestbook
Privatemsg
As your community grows, the members in your community can do private messaging to each other. I guess this would be great if you are running a dating website. But there does not have to be any of that energy in it. It is nice if you meet someone online to get to know they more and ask more intimate questions without everyone and their dog knowing what you are talking about. Buddylist
Did you know you can re-create myspace and facebook with Drupal's buddy list? When you install buddylist, your users can start to add members within your Drupal site as their friends, they can in turn keep track of what their friends are up to very much like you would in your facebook account. Its incredible the many ways that people can stay in touch these days, 5 to 6 decades this all would not be possible. http://drupal.org/project/buddylist
Path & Pathauto
Path is a core module. You can simply turn it on. Token and Pathauto can be downloaded at: drupal.org/project/token, drupal.org/project/pathauto. When you turn on path auto, Drupal grabs what you wrote in your title field and puts it in the url path settings. It will typically say content/i-love-drupal, if you are writing blogs, you can backspace and remove the content and put blog in their instead. Same with using other content types you can remove content and put in video, audio, etc. By adding keywords in our path url alias, it makes it easier for the search engines to find you. This is not the only thing you can do. You can also download a module called:
SEO checklist
This checklist will be a list of modules you can download from http://drupal.org/project/seo_checklist to make your site really search engine friendly. This little section can be overwhelming don't do it at the end of the day after you have worked over 9 hours and are stressed out. If you are a drupal newbie, no one expects you to do the entire checklist especially if you have not registered for my course at: http://www.easydrupaltutorials.com/. There is a lot involved with setting up the XML google site map and the zillion other things you have to do on this checklist. If this sounds a bit overwhelming don't worry, by the time you graduate from my Drupal for non techies complete course, you can do it in your sleep. For those receiving the Drupal for non techies once a week and working at this part-time, completing the seo checklist can be a 4 to 6 month process part time. Do it on a weekend first thing in the morning and brew yourself a cup of green chai tea first. Reward yourself first.
Tagadelic
A tag is a keyword, it is a link, it is a system of categorization to group content or data together using a one word keyword phrase. When you click on a tag for instance: T-mobile, it will bring you to all the blog entries, custom fields or any content on your site that you tagged or categorized as T-mobile. Tagadelic is also a free tagging system. When users come to your site and blog, they will see a field that says tags: in here your user can type in 1 word keyword to tag to the post so, others coming to your blog can easily find content associated with that keyword. http://drupal.org/project/tagadelic
